Let me introduce myself
Mark Harvey, BA (Hons) London (German and French), Dip TEO (Manchester)
Member of the French literary translators’ association (ATLF: (https://www.atlf.org)
Resident in St Denis de Cabanne (Loire), France
My parents came of Cambridge families, with numerous artists and linguists on my mother’s side, my father’s background being more technical.
I gained broad linguistic and cultural experience teaching three languages at all levels in West Africa, Germany, England and France. I became a freelance translator in 1992.
My career
In over 25 years of translation, I have worked on a wide variety of specialist documents, notably in the fields of precision engineering (automatic control, fine watchmaking), the environment and sustainable development (ecosystems, renewable energy) and the fine arts (painting, ceramics, photography).
In 2019, I took retirement as a technical translator. I now dedicate my accumulated experience and knowledge to translating works of more literary character.
Translation
A good translation flows so naturally that no one could guess that the original text was not written in English.
That is my aim. For my clients’ appraisals, please refer to the Testimonials page.
